findable | 2 | it took me some time analyzing data provided in the São Paulo Open Data Portal, the second link provided above. Finally, I realized it was outdated, so I looked for a updated one. When I typed “public places data são paulo” I found the website for the CEM, the first link provided, with the updated information. |
findable_steps | 1) I first looked at the open data portal; 2) I found the information there (checking with a specialist if it was right), but it was outdated; 3) So I googled “public places dataset são paulo city” and i found CEM’s website; 4) I just had to download the dataset and check if it had the information needed. | |

collector_name | CEM - Centro de Estudos da Metrópole | The “CEM” (Center for metropolitan studies, roughly translated) is a research institution on social sciences applied to metropolitan areas based in the University of São Paulo and CEBRAP (Brazilian Center for Analysis and Planning). |
characteristics | Zipcodes, Addresses, Coordinates (latitude, longitude), Data available for entire city | When I downloaded the .rar file, it had many files inside, including a read-me file. With this one I could check that addresses and zipcodes for the entire city were available. For the coordinates, the specialist I consulted opened the file with a GIS software and showed me that there was implicit information that could provide latitude and longitude. So, I considered that it has this information, even though it was not explicit in the documentation. |
location | https://www.fflch.usp.br/centrodametropole/716 - This link provides a download for the 2016 locations dataset for the São Paulo Metropolitan Region., https://dados.prefeitura.sp.gov.br/dataset/geocodificaca - Data is also available in the São Paulo city Open Data Portal, but it is outdated. | In the first link, you have to scroll down a little bit and click on “Base de Logradouros-2016”, obtaining a .rar file (zipped format with many files). |
Municipal open data portal also provides the locations dataset with all the information required. It is not updated, though. So, the dataset considered is this one from USP. Review ok.
