findable 2 It was not very easy, first because I’m not a specialist in the area but also because it was hard to find the reports inside the website. It took some time for me to make sure that INEA was the best source of data.
findable_steps 1) I googled “water quality data rio de janeiro”, 2) I found some reports and references for INEA and the water and sanitation company in Rio de Janeiro (CEDAE), 3) I looked for water quality data in these two websites, found some information in both, 4) I consulted with a specialist in the area to decide which of them I would use as main reference. CEDAE provided more reports, but less useful data for this dimension.

usability 1 It is difficult to use the data not only because it is only in pdf format but also because you need to understand the specifics of this kind of data.
collector_name INEA - Instituto Estadual do Ambiente INEA, the state institute for the environment, even though it is a state government department, provides information for cities, including Rio de Janeiro. It is associated to the state secretariat of Environment.
characteristics Fecal coliform, Nitrates, Total Dissolved Solids, Data per water source, Available for entire city The report doesn’t provide data on arsenic and fluoride levels. All the other are available in pdf per monitoring station in the Guanabara hydrographic region, that includes the city of Rio de Janeiro.
location https://www.inea.rj.gov.br/Portal/MegaDropDown/Monitoram - INEA webpage where you can find monthly reports on water quality per hydrographic regions., https://www.inea.rj.gov.br/cs/groups/public/documents/do - Example of the last report from october 2016. I didn’t find a open data reference. The only source is these pdf reports.
